Certificate in Art Therapy

An educational therapist works with the whole child and is not limited to specific academic areas. Often, children who are struggling in school experience intense emotions during and about their time in school. On occasion, they arrive at their sessions feeling emotional and need a means to vent or explore them before being mentally available for remediation. Art therapy is a means of integrating various art-making and therapeutic art techniques into my scope of practice to support students beyond straightforward skill building.

To better meet the needs of my students, I recently earned a Certificate in Art Therapy after completing an intensive training program designed for allied professionals. Seminars included Family Art Therapy, Symbols and Guided Imagery, and Trauma-Informed Stabilization. Collaging with crumpled paper, building imaginary creatures out of modeling clay, and various forms of mandala making are just a few of the activities that can help students release feelings, build self-confidence, and break patterns of negative thinking.
